* "close, personal friend" perhaps better described as "imaginary close, personal friend" ;).
Wow, I just noticed my Typepad Pensieve blog is nearing the 10,000th comment (I wonder what it'd be if I rolled my Blogger blog into the count....). Let's make it FUN! Old timers, newbies, lurkers--give me your best shout out...your most imaginative comment EVAH! Blow air up my skirt like there's no tomorrow! Tell me what you LOVE about Robin's PENSIEVE! In other news that really doesn't matter, MICHAEL JOHNS IS OUT??? Guess I should be voting, it daggum wasn't his time :(. His "Bohemian Rhapsody" early on and "We Will Rock You/We are the Champions" made me a believer.

Me, amused: "Oh, yeah?"

It's not too late to join Project Yellow...you'll be amazed and mystified at all the pieces of sunshine right under your nose :). It provided me the impetus behind some amazing pictures (I still can't believe I was the one on the other side of the lens :) ).

Do you already know my middle name? Could someone please tell Bobby Sherman it's his fault? And did you see this on youtube? Cause if you didn't, you really missed the
most hilarious satire known to man most unbelievable news story of the decade.
Ok...I've given you enough comment fodder for now...click the links, leave me some lovin', here or "there" :).
10,000 B.C. (brilliant comments, not the movie)--I can feel you heading this way!!
Ladies and gentleman, I was beginning to have my doubts, but after getting a little help from her friends........we have a winner for this month's Pensieve Picture Puzzler:
Jeannie, Musings from Left Field
"It looks like a tool that was used to bind or tie up things with a rope being put through the eye and the iron tool is placed in a secure place to hold whatever is being tied up or bound."
What she was describing is a rope hasp, a 1900s version pictured here in its entirety:
I can't give you much history on this blasted thing because in my
limited extensive research I never could find another! Other hasps, yes, this one, no.
Jeannie wins a FANTASTIC Paula/Bobby/Jamie Deen prize pack, including the boys' new cookbook and some other PD goodies. Thanks to Phil (seriously, my webmaster friend) for providing this month's Puzzler prize!
For a runner up, oh, my........comments amused me continuously over the past several days--DID ANYONE REALLY BELIEVE ANY WOMAN WOULD LET ONE OF THESE THINGS NEAR HER "a r e a s" to pull out a baby (or perform any other manner of medical procedure!!)? Tiger Lamb Girl had me grinning from the get-go with her introductory question, "Would I count if I'm a Texican living in UK, but coming home for a visit this summer, therefore I have a US address?" She was all over the place with her guesses (and actually, not too far off with one). Joy T. revealed her "relationship" with MY Phil is blossoming...(hmmmm, hand's off sistah!). Sarah halfway suggested they might use one in an autopsy scene of CSI and Karmyn's children's guesses were charming (a slingshot or "shooter").
And the suggestions that deserve s o m e t h i n g for persistence and the smile factor and Fantasiatic Imaginations??
Kim Davis at Mom Unscripted. She reeeally had her thinking cap on with "A chastity belt? for males? a musket ball molder? An old timey car jack? An ice cream scoop. A noose holder for public hangings. A weapon...". THEN, she dreamed about it and had some more guesses: It's a surgical piece used in hip replacement surgery. Pre-911 airport security days. Pre-airplane day.
DID YOU GET THAT PEOPLE? SHE DREAMED ABOUT THE THING! (Me thinks Mom Unscripted needs a bit of a blogging break ;) ).
And then there's CPA Mom, bless her heart. She guessed (a clamp of some kind, perhaps used to hold the leg of a horse while it was being shoed). Then she guessed again (for melting metal - or for smelting). And again (clamps for getting a baby out (human or farm animal) ). Then she remembered the name of those "clamps" (vaginal speculum or forceps). She persisted (this is hard but I LOVE Paula Deen and am willing to work for it!)...and she eventually resorted to schmoozing other bloggers, although I'm not sure what good THAT does (I think Karisma is a very smart woman. I'm adding her to my blog roll now)!
So...there ya have it. Jeannie wins the whiz-bang prize pack and Mom Unscripted and CPA Mom win some kind of second-rate runner up prize (please email your addresses, ladies...even though I think you've all sent them before). OOooo, and THANK YOU to ALL of you who have linked the Pensieve's Picture Puzzler on your blogs!!!
THANKS to all of you who made this FUN for anyone reading along (especially me!)
Hey guys, if you're short on time, check out the "Snackalicious Super Dishes FAQs!!
Continuing what I began earlier today...
This month I have the pleasure of hosting and selecting the theme for Rebecca Writes' "Recipe Round Up". Because RRU usually takes place mid-month, I thought it'd be too late to post New Year's Day recipes, so I opted for a theme centered around a little football game that occurs later in the month; this year, it comes so late, it takes place on January 34th! I emailed Rebecca and told her I'd like "Crowd-pleasers" to be January's theme and she said that was just fine.
I've really enjoyed this monthly carnival and hoped that
the a few of my regular readers would discover it and want to join in, too.
Well, my bunny trail-hoppin' brain jumped from one thing to another and imaginary scents from Boo Mama's Souptacular were still teasing my olfactory senses and I've been wanting an excuse to make holiday bacon appetizers and I thought how fun it'd be to have a big ol' recipe swap and then everything collided and (breathe) SHAZAAM--
I couldn't help it, y'all...once the idea started incubating, it had to be hatched!
Here are the details:
I'm getting hungry just thinkin' about it.
But now that I'm nearing the end of my post, I'm getting nervous, too...vewry nervous.
What if I build it and no one comes :/ ? Y i k e s....
To pique your curiosity, here's a look at the cookbooks you can win.
I KNOW there are some FABULOUS recipes in your stash...I'm hoping you'll wanna share them with a few of your bloggity friends!
p.s. Oooo! It's a backwards Wednesday at Rocks In My Dryer...I just realized I have an entry for that, too :).
Next week is the week to post your monthly poems for Pensieve's Poetic License. Instructions will be given on Monday (you can get a head start by peeking at the FAQs page) and you have until Thursday to post your poems. That's when you will have opportunity to add your permalinks to Mr. Linky.
Please consider joining this month's carnival--it's an unexpectedly fun exercise in creativity! With only two months under our belt, I've been surprised and delighted 1) by the level of participation, and 2) the quality of poetry (thank y'all!). I think the sheer fun has surprised more than a few of us :).
This month's form is new to me, but I think it's time for a bit of a challenge, yes?
I had SOOooo much fun with my Mystery Box post--both with the number of correct guesses and the insanity of the incorrect guesses--I decided to do it again...and again...and then again, again. Hence, the impetus behind...
...Pensieve's Picture Puzzler!
because I'll tire quickly of writing it out, Pensieve's Picture Puzzler will occur monthly, and the best part?
Prizes will be awarded! Admittedly, not Ree-size prizes but you gotta start somewhere, right?
The first official p3 kicks off next week; when I have all the details
actually written finalized, I'll post it in my left sidebar. I hope you'll check back and then play along :).
You might recall I had a little contest a while back, which was really a thinly veiled cry for help from those who have mad photoshopping skill (of
which I have none). Several readers
felt sorry for me offered their time and talent at a VERY busy time of
year, and although I sent them a little surcie, it was only right and
decent to publicly thank them here. Just look at what they came up with! A million "thanks" don't begin to express my gratitude to them, but it's a start...
Nekkid Lizards ~ These guys responded in record time, confirming to me that asking readers for help was a BRILLIANT idea. I met them through Swampy (Anecdotes, Antidotes & Anodes) (they're her cousins) and if you check out their blog, you'll see Kim has a graphic design business. I've seen her work other places and I sure do like her style.
Karmyn ~ My friend and writer who blogs at Dreaming What Ifs is NOT a professional designer, but she crafted something similar to what I was imagining when I asked for help. It's obvious if she put her mind to it, she COULD make money at this stuff. I'm afraid being a mom to Jammin and Buttercup...and soon a Baby Dreamer will keep that career at bay a while longer.
Ai yi yi--I LOVE 'EM! It's like Revka climbed into my brain, wandered around a bit, and with ease, spit out what she saw in my mind's eye. Of course the fact she's helped fine-tune my template in the past gave her insight into how my "design eye" sees.
And last, but not least, Steve. Oh, my ever-lovin' word, in classic over-achiever style, he sent more than a few my way. This should come as no surprise, really...he, with the aid of a trusty sidekick, sent my comments into oblivion for a few posts a while back. Min must've been sick, or I'm sure with HER photoshop prowess, she woulda sent half a dozen my way, too.
Because it was a contest, I'm required to choose a winner, and I've gotta give it to Steve-- 1) Pure p3 proliferation, 2) He had the foresight to add my URL which tipped the scale (and I didn't have the heart to ask anyone else to spend more time on it :/), 3) He, like Revka, painted pictures my mind only imagined because I'm pixelly-digitally impaired.
3) Announcement #3 - comes with PRIZES, too!
a) This post is entirely too long already
b) I've been at the orthodontist office all morning :/
c) I've been waiting on "a few things" to finish this post
d) All of the above
I'm gonna write it as a separate post. I promise...it is NOT to jerk you around or drive traffic...I just know a few of you are (she says REEAAAL humbly) wondering what my "news" is, and I wanted to assure you I AM NOT PREGNANT! Gosh, I hope this isn't the hugest letdown EVAH!
Stay tuned, I'm workin' on the post while you read.... :)
